The RNA recognition motifs (RRMs), also known as mRNA-binding domains, are indicated by the boxed areas labeled RRM1 or RRM2. The RRMs are located near the amino terminus of the protein. A 16 amino acid linking region between RRM1 and RRM2 is identical in Xenopus, Axolotl, mouse, and human. Amphibian and mammalian RRM sequences all have greater than 90% homology at the amino acid level, details in the Section “Results.”
