Fig. 4. FoxQ1. Embryos were stained for FoxQ1 expression at stage 14 (A), 23 (B), 28 (C), 37 (E), and 44 (F,G). Panels A–C,E,F are lateral views with the anterior to the left while G is a ventral view with the anterior to the left. Embryos in panels F,G are cleared. We horizontally sectioned and cleared a stained stage 28 embryo (D). The section is shown with the anterior to the left. We also sectioned and cleared stained stage 44 embryos (H–J). The sections correspond to the lines in panel G and are shown with the dorsal side up and right side of the embryo to the left of the panel. To better illustrate localized staining along the gastrointestinal tract, we have included schematics (K, adapted from (Chalmers and Slack, (2000)). The letter above each schematic indicates the panel to which it corresponds. (Es, esophagus; gb, gallbladder; ht, heart; ia1, first section of intestine leading from stomach; ia2, second section of intestine leading from stomach; ib, external coil of intestine; lu, lung; lv, liver; pa, pancreas; st, stomach).
