Research Description

This laboratory studies genes and signaling pathways involved in stem/progenitor cell proliferation and differentiation. We have recently found that a novel o-GalNac glycotransferase, which is regulated by the IGF/Akt pathway, plays key roles in the neural stem/progenitor cell lineage. In addition, we have been studying the mechanism through which Notch signaling is regulated in stem cells. While we use Xenopus laevis primarily, we also use zebrafish mutants for our studies. We have identified a zebrafish mutant with elevated Notch signaling in the intestinal epithelium.
