Research Description

The research of the Department of Developmental Biochemistry is concerned with various aspects of vertebrate embryogenesis, using the South African clawed frog Xenopus laevis as an experimental model system. We are primarily interested in early patterning events, as these are relevant for organogenesis (brain, liver, pancreas). For this purpose, we use both classical embryological techniques, as well as modern approaches in the area of molecular genetics, including the generation of transgenic frogs.
