2016 Xenopus Bioinformatics and Genome Editing Workshops

Dear Xenopus community,

Registration for the Xenopus Bioinformatics workshop is now open. The workshop will be held May 1-7, 2016 at the National Xenopus Resource (NXR) at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, MA.

The workshop will be taught by Leonid Peshkin, Taejoon Kwon and Ian Quigley. Space is limited to 25 students so register early to reserve your space.

Visit the NXR website for more detailed information and to register.

This workshop is essential for any lab that wants to learn how to analyze their large data sets. The workshop is available to anyone and no actual skill is required apart from knowing how to use a computer. It is a practical bioinformatics workshop for biologists. You are encouraged to bring your own data on which to work during the week.

Workshop Costs (Bioinformatics)

Event housing, meals and registration, Single room –     $1,800
Event housing, meals and registration, Double room -    $1,400
Event meals and registration (no housing)    –               $1,000

Also inform your colleagues, non-Xenopus researchers are welcome as well.

Registration is now open, but attendance is limited so register early. Some financial assistance is available to those that require it, so please contact Marko Horb.

Workshop Costs (Genome Editing)

Event housing, meals and registration, Single room -  $2200
Event housing, meals and registration, Double room - $1800
Event meals and registration (no housing)    -            $1400

To view the syllabus from the previous workshop, click on this link.

Included in the cost are essential lab consumables and frogs, including designing and cloning sgRNA in advance or TALEN pairs specific for your own research. In addition, the NXR will create and raise one line for each attendee. Since the goal of the workshop is to learn the techniques and procedures it is not imperative that you actually create your line during the 5 days. This cost is a bit higher than previous workshops however, there are more goodies included in the cost.

Topics covered include:

CRISPR/Cas and TALEN theoretical and practical applications
Essentials of cloning sgRNAs
Essentials of genotyping
Maternal host transfer technique
Both laevis and tropicalis will be used

The goal is for you to practice the techniques using already known sgRNAs and TALENs and then use your own. Ideally you will become competent in the techniques and implement them in your own lab. In addition for those who have limited experience in tropicalis this is a perfect time to get comfortable with them.

Do you want to attend BOTH workshops?

Combined Workshop Cost (Bioinformatics and Genome Editing)

Event housing, meals and registration, Single room –     $3,300
Event housing, meals and registration, Double room -    $2,600
Event meals and registration (no housing) –                   $2,000

As with previous workshops, scholarships will be made available to those that require it. Please contact Marko Horb for more details regarding scholarships. The goal is to encourage as many of you to attend as possible. All costs include room and board and reagents, though you will have to bring your own laptop for the Bioinformatics workshop. Space is limited so register early.
