Single-layer, superficial cell grafts were placed in the neural plates of 7 hosts at stage 11.5, and embryos grown to stage 23, before Pax3 gene expression was detected using RNA in situ hybridization (Davidson and Keller, 1999). Fluorescein visualization reveals Pax3 RNA within rhodamine-containing superficial cells en route to the dorsal neural tube.
