Note that at stage 10 both Xbra and XSIP1 are expressed above the dorsal blastopore lip and that as gastrulation proceeds, they resolve in two distinct expression domains. Sections of embryos stained for XSIP1 RNA (blue) and Xbra protein (brown) show that the two genes are co-expressed above the dorsal lip at stage 10.25 (G, G1: sagittal sections) and resolve in two different domains at stage 12 (H, H1: sagittal sections; I, I1: transverse sections).
