| Description: |
Mutation affecting inner ear otoconia identified in the Mill Hill screen for ENU-induced mutations. Mutation in the otoconin90 gene. Reference: Ironfield, H.V.; (2011) Genetic studies of inner ear development in Xenopus tropicalis. Doctoral thesis. http://discovery.ucl.ac.uk/1324536/ |
| Phenotype Description: |
Homozygous tadpoles display balance defects and inner ear defects in otoconial formation. At NF stage 45, kom tadpoles show a single enlarged otoconium located over each inner ear macula sensory epithelium. Hair cell deficits ensue, and tadpoles display vestibular behavioural defects such as circular swimming. |
