Stages are also available on line from a UK site (click here). I have had trouble downloading these images so I have provided them for you here. I have used high resolution tiff files (.tiff) and as lower resolution gif files (.gif) rather than the normal JPEG format. I couldn't make 2-bit JPEG files, so they end up being much larger than the TIFFs. Tiff files can be used on Mac, PC, NeXT and others. If your previewers cannot open them directly, use a program like Photoshop and the "Open As" command (under "file"). The default format box is "RAW", change this to "TIFF" then open the file, easy. If you are using Windows you may need to download the file, then change the suffix .tiff to .tif to open the file, or just use the gif files, they are still very nice. The tiff files are moderately sized, average 50 to 100 KB, so they will not take long to download, but are high enough quality that they can be enlarged and remain very sharp (300 or 400 dpi, 2 bit, not compressed).
These figures are from Nieuwkoop, P.D. and Faber, J. (1994). Normal Table of Xenopus laevis (Daudin). New York, Garland. © Garland 1994
Let me know if you have trouble downloading or viewing (peter)
I have also included a "life cycle" figure that you may wish to use for illustrative purposes, it shows the major developmental stages and times, and also has a photo of a pair of adults.
