High magnification images of oviduct glands. B) Horizontal orientation of the oviduct glands. The glandular lumen is is located centrally, and the glands are surrounded by loose connective tissue with many capillaries. Note the dark-staining secretory granules that contain mucin-like glycoproteins that are secreted to make the layers of jelly coats on the oocytes as they are transported through the lumen.
