Vomeronasal epithelium. The vomeronasal mucosa is unique in that it surrounds a very narrow lumen, the sensory cells possess only microvilli, which are seen as very long membranous extensions of the sensory cell dendrite into the lumen, and the sustentacular cells occupy a very distinct layer separated from the sensory cells.
