Research Interests

Mechanisms of Wnt signaling in early vertebrate development

Research Area

Wnt signaling plays an important role in embryonic development and cancer. The Division of Molecular Embryology studies mechanisms of Wnt pathway regulation. To this end, we identify developmental control genes, investigate what their biological roles and biochemical modes of action are, as well as how these genes are regulated. Our particular interest is investigating signal transduction of Wnt receptors and associated cofactors. We utilize mouse and frog embryos as well as organoid- and mammalian cell culture as model systems, and we implement innovative molecular technologies for these analyses. Thus, by following a comprehensive approach spanning from the biochemical to the organismic level, we seek to unravel new biological roles of the Wnt signaling network and use this knowledge as a basis for translational approaches in tumor biology.
