Name: Dr. Elena Bossi
Position: Associate Professor of Physiology
Research Description:
My research work in the laboratory of cellular and molecular physiology is focused on proteins involved in the translocation of the neurotransmitters, amino acids and small peptides across the cellular membrane. In particular, we are interested in the characterization of the structure-function relationships of these proteins and in the role of ions in translocation. We use heterologous expression in Xenopus oocytes, coupled to electrophysiology and fluorophores or HPLC in an attempt to identify specific aspects of the transport function. The solute carriers of different families (SLC1A, SLC6A, SLC15A, SLC11A) together with the interaction of nanoparticles with the membrane are at present our main objects of my study. The techniques used include microinjection, voltage-clamp, site-specific mutagenesis, uptake measurements radiolabelled free, immunocytochemistry, single oocyte chemiluminescence.
