Nathan Dascal
Position
Professor of Cellular/Molecular NeurophysiologyResearch Description
Research topics: understanding of molecular mechanisms of signal transduction by neurotransmitters in neurons, and their relation to cell function and to human disease. Research methods: Electrophysiology, Protein Biochemistry, Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET), Molecular biology, Mathematical and Kinetic Modeling and Simulation, Immunocytochemistry Main projects in the lab include: Molecular mechanisms of function and regulation of G protein activated K+ channels (GIRK) and neuronal Ca2+ channels (Cav2) in health and disease The diverse coupling of G protein-coupled receptors with G proteins and effectors in heterologous expression systems and in nerve cells Regulation of ion channels by drugs used in treatment of neurological disorders
