Name: Dr. Simone B Reber
Research Description:
Simone studied Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at the University of Heidelberg, the University of Washington and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ). She completed her Diploma thesis with Michael Knop at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and obtained her PhD at the University of Heidelberg, studying spindle assembly in the research group of Oliver Gruss.

For her postdoctoral training Simone joined Tony Hyman's laboratory at the MPI of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics supported by a fellowship from the Max Planck Society. Being a member of international projects such as ‘MitoCheck - Regulation of mitosis by phosphorylation’ and ‘MitoSys Systems biology of mitosis’ funded by the European Union under its Framework Programs (FP6 and FP7), Simone started combining her long-standing interests in spindle assembly and self-organization with theoretical analysis.

In 2015, Simone started her independent research group ‘Quantitative Biology’ at the IRI for the Life Sciences funded by the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) in cooperation with the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the Max Delbrück Center (MDC). Simone’s lab is funded by the Excellence Initiative of the DFG and has recently been awarded a Princeton-Humboldt Strategic Partnership grant to pursue international collaborations with the labs of Cliff Brangwynne and Sabine Petry. Simone has recently been elected for the Young Leaders in Science program by the Schering Stiftung and as a fellow of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin.
