Research Description:
Prof. James Maller started his carrier as an undergraduate in biochemistry at Cornell University, and continued his post-graduate studies at University of California, Berkeley (1969-1974) in John Gerhart's laboratory. He followed this as a postdoc in Edwin G. Krebs laboratory, who was then the Chair of Biological Chemistry at the University of California, Davis, and with whom he moved to the (HHMI) at the University of Washington, Seattle, and it's Department of Pharmacology in 1977.In 1978 he obtained an Assistant Professor position in pharmacology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, which was chaired by Norman Weiner. His initial work was to investigate how the level of cAMP was modulated by progesterone in the oocyte.By 1985, he had been promoted to Associate Professor with tenure. Hewas appointed an HHMI investigator, a position he retained for twenty years until his voluntary retirement in 2010.
