Name: Tom D Sargent
Position: Professor Emeritus (retired)
Research Description:
The Section on Vertebrate Development laboratory at the NIH was formerly headed by Dr. Tom Sargent. The focus of the group was on ectodermal development, especially on epidermis and neural crest and the relationship between these two derivatives. The primary animal model system used was the frog Xenopus laevis, but they also worked with zebrafish, with the long term goal to understand how genes function in early embryonic development and in disease.
