Genes were picked from Supplementary Table S7; bmp7.2 is not on the list, since ACs and embryo share the same prevalent isoform. It was nevertheless chosen because of the importance of BMP signaling in ectodermal cell fate choice. Inserts show embryos hemisectioned prior to hybridization. Staining reactions have been conducted in parallel for each row.
