This vector produces a bgal protein that is localized to the cytoplasm. It can be used either to produce bgal as a marker, or to construct bgal fusion protein. Such proteins are often functional. The bgal sequences start with the 9th amino acid of the wild-type bgal protein. The EcoRI site normally present in the lacZ (bgal) gene has been removed by a silent point mutuation.
