Job Description

Xenbase is seeking highly motivated individual to join the Xenbase Biocuration team located in the Division of Developmental Biology, at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Research Foundation, in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. Job Description: The Assistant Curator is a key member of the Xenbase team. The primary task is to review newly published scientific literature, preparing the paper for further curation by our PhD level biocurators. All of this is done on the Xenbase website using our easy-to-use curation interfaces. The Assistant curator will: -‘Triage' articles to assess curatable data. -Extract ‘metadata’ from articles: the genes and models of human diseases discussed -Curate the reagents used in the research (i.e., transgenic constructs, antibodies, morpholinos, guide RNAs), adding them to the Xenbase online catalogs -Upload high definition images and figure captions. -Nominate high impact articles for promotion on the homepage. -Keep records of curation activities using Microsoft software/tools. -Report productivity at weekly group meetings. Preference will be given to an applicant who is/has : -Enrolled in/has recently graduated from an undergraduate or Masters degree in biological or biomedical sciences, with majors/courses in any of the following areas: cell biology, biochemistry, developmental biology, genomics, bioinformatics, genetics, molecular biology, zoology, anatomy or related field. -Self-motivated, independent and efficient-speed and accuracy is key! -Excellent communication skills, including written and spoken English. -Experience with any vertebrate model (frog, mouse, zebrafish or chick) -Experience with a bioinformatics, genomics or databases How to Apply: Please submit your application, to christina.james_zorn@cchmc.org with the following information: -A cover letter, including a statement of interest/purpose (why are you applying to this job and how does it fit into your education/work goals) -CV or Resume -Copy of your most recent university Transcript -List 3 references/referees whom we may contact, including email and telephone number.
