Research Interests

Molecular mechanisms of synaptic transmission

Research Area

The way we see, smell or move is determined by neuronal communication occurring in specialized sites called synapses. The term synaptic transmission makes reference to the transfer of information from the presynaptic to the postsynaptic terminal and involves multiple cellular and molecular processes. Although neurotransmission is highly regulated by intracellular enviroment. What are the extracellular molecules capable of modifying fundamental aspects of synapses, such as stability or plasticity? Do extracellular signals compete with intracellular mechanisms of controlling symaptic transmissions?
