20th International Xenopus Conference
Welcome to the 20th International Xenopus Conference
https://xenopusresource.org/20th-international-xenopus-conference-ixc25
Portsmouth, UK
August 17-21, 2025
The organising committee and all the Xenopus researchers based at Portsmouth can’t wait to welcome you (finally, the last conference scheduled here ended up virtual due to covid) to our city on an island on the South Coast of England. Portsmouth was the birthplace of Lancelot Hogben, who pioneered using X. laevis in the Hogben pregnancy test, and for the last 19 years has been the home of one of our community’s resource centres: the EXRC. As well as having a “frog history” the city has a massive naval heritage and we’ll be visiting the breathtaking, recovered wreck of the Tudor warship the Mary Rose for our networking event during the conference.
This year’s programme showcases the extraordinary range and depth of research powered by Xenopus. From the earliest stages of embryonic development to complex processes like organogenesis, tissue homeostasis, and regeneration, the talks and sessions reflect the power of Xenopus as a versatile model system for biological discovery. Whether you’re interested in development, cell behaviour, disease modelling, or emerging tools, there will be something here to ignite your curiosity. A special session will commemorate 20 years of X. tropicalis as a model organism, celebrating its impact and looking ahead to where it's taking us next.
Abstract submission deadline: 12pm UK time June 9.
Registration deadline: August 10.

Due to the difficulties currently facing scientists in the Xenopus community, across different areas of the world, the organising committee has made the decision to offer a live streaming and recorded version of the conference (in addition to the in-person event running in Portsmouth, UK). This will mean that all talks (plenary, invited, and flash talks) will be streamed over a secure platform and recordings will be accessible for a period of up to 2 weeks after the conference has finished (17/08/25 - 05/09/2025). The timetabled workshops and networking activities will be for in-person attendees only.
The IXC organisers will assume consent for live streaming, recording, and video/ photographic content from all speakers and attendees, unless consent is withdrawn in written form to ixc25@port.ac.uk and annie.godwin@port.ac.uk by 13/08/2025.
