AI Protein Function : the slc26a2.2 gene encodes a sulfate transporter protein. this anion exchanger transports sulfate and is expressed in the otic vesicle, notochord, and pronephros during development. its expression overlaps with extracellular matrix sulfation sites and it co-localizes with the transcription factor pax8 in the developing otic placode. knockdown of slc26a2.2 disrupts otocyst morphogenesis and reduces sulfated proteoglycan levels. this protein is localized to the plasma membrane.
