UniProtKB Protein Function: Acts in a planar cell polarity (PCP) complex; polarization along the apical/basal axis of epithelial cells. Regulates the polarized assembly of fibronectrin on the surface of the mesoderm during gastrulation. Essential for gastrulation cell movements, cooperating with dvl2/dsh to activate jnk. Acts together with tes to control axial elongation.

AI Protein Function : The prickle1 protein is a core planar cell polarity protein functioning in the wnt signaling pathway. It localizes to the cell membrane due to farnesylation and acts as a negative regulator of the canonical wnt pathway while promoting non-canonical wnt/pcp signaling. This protein is involved in convergent extension movements during gastrulation, neural tube closure, and the establishment of tissue polarity. Its function is mediated through physical interactions with other pcp proteins such as vangl2 and dishevelled. Expression and functional studies show its role in the neural tube, notochord, and somites.
