AI Protein Function : The gene ranbp3 encodes a ran-binding protein localized to the nucleus, functioning in nuclear protein import by facilitating the recycling of importin-alpha from the nucleus to the cytoplasm following the gtp hydrolysis of ran. It is expressed in the oocyte, egg, and throughout early embryonic development including the blastula, gastrula, neurula, and tailbud stages, with specific expression detected in the neural tube, eye, branchial arches, and pronephros.
