UniProtKB Protein Function: Associated component of the mcm complex that acts as a regulator of DNA replication. Binds to the MCM complex during late S phase and promotes the disassembly of the mcm complex from chromatin, thereby acting as a key regulator of pre-replication complex (pre-RC) unloading from replicated DNA. Can dissociate the mcm complex without addition of ATP; probably acts by destabilizing interactions of each individual subunits of the mcm complex. Required for sister chromatid cohesion.

AI Protein Function : The mcmbp protein is a minichromosome maintenance complex-binding protein that functions as a component of the pre-replication complex, facilitating the loading of the MCM2-7 helicase complex onto chromatin to license DNA for a single round of replication per cell cycle. It localizes to the nucleus and binds chromatin during s-phase in egg extracts. This role is fundamental for the proper initiation of DNA synthesis in early embryonic cells and oocytes.
