UniProtKB Protein Function: Essential for the control of the cell cycle at the G1/S (start) transition. May play a role in transcriptional regulation.

AI Protein Function : The ccnd1 protein is a g1/s-specific cyclin that functions as a regulatory component of the cyclin-dependent kinase complex, primarily with cdk4 or cdk6, to phosphorylate and inactivate the retinoblastoma protein, thereby promoting progression through the g1 phase of the cell cycle. It localizes to the nucleus and cytoplasm. Its expression is associated with proliferating cells in the developing brain, optic vesicle, branchial arches, and limb buds. During oogenesis, ccnd1 is involved in meiotic maturation as a component of the progesterone-induced signaling cascade within the oocyte.
