AI Protein Function : The cyfip2 gene encodes a cytoplasmic fmr1 interacting protein 2. The cyfip2 protein is involved in cytoskeletal regulation, dendritic spine morphogenesis, and the transport of specific mRNAs to neuronal synapses for local translation. It functions within the wave regulatory complex to activate the arp2/3 complex for actin nucleation and polymerization. Expression is detected in the brain, spinal cord, cranial ganglia, eye, and olfactory epithelium during development. The protein localizes to the cytoplasm and nucleus.
