UniProtKB Protein Function: Key enzyme for ketone body catabolism. Transfers the CoA moiety from succinate to acetoacetate. Formation of the enzyme-CoA intermediate proceeds via an unstable anhydride species formed between the carboxylate groups of the enzyme and substrate.

AI Protein Function : The oxct1 gene encodes the mitochondrial enzyme succinyl-coa:3-ketoacid coenzyme a transferase 1. This protein is localized to the mitochondrial matrix and functions in ketone body metabolism, catalyzing the transfer of coenzyme a from succinate to acetoacetate to form acetoacetyl-coa for energy production. Expression analysis shows its mRNA is present during embryonic development, including at nf stage 41, and it is involved in metabolic processes.
