AI Protein Function : The gene cnot2 encodes a component of the ccr4-not deadenylase complex, which functions in cytoplasmic mrna deadenylation to regulate post-transcriptional gene expression. It is involved in maternal mrna clearance during the maternal-to-zygotic transition and is required for normal gastrulation movements and anterior development. Expression is detected in the oocyte, egg, and throughout early embryogenesis, including in the blastula and gastrula stages, with later localization to the brain, eye, branchial arches, and somites. The protein localizes to p-bodies and the cytoplasm.
