Fig. 1. Distribution of proenkephalin-like immunoreactivity in the optic tectum of Rana esculenta. All 4 sections are trom the same colchicine-pretreated frog. All 4 antisera stained perikarya, nerve fibers and terminals with the same distribution. Pear-shaped neurons containing proenkephalin-like immunoreactivity are observed in layer 6. The apical processes of these neurons can be followed as far as the superficial layers of the rectum. Dense bands of proenkephalin immunoreactive fibers are observed in layers 3, 5, 8, and lamina C of the superficial neuropil. Some pigmented cells are observed on the outer surface of the tectum. A is from thc lateral part of the rectum while B-D are from the dorsal part of the tectum. A: Met-ENK antiserum; unintensified. B: Met-ENK-Arg 6 antiserum; unintensified. C: ENK-7 (MEAP-I) antiserum; unintensified. D: metorphamide antiserum; unintensified. A, B. C and D ×75. |
